Miami Beach.... is located on a barrier island between Biscayne Bay and the Atlantic Ocean; the Bay separates Miami Beach from the city of Miami, Florida. It is about 3-4 hours drive from Cocoa Beach, where we lived for five years. We love visiting Miami... a lot of interesting places to see. Miami Beach's Art Deco Historic District is the largest collection of Art Deco architecture in the world and comprises hundreds of hotels, apartments and other structures. One of the more popular areas of Miami Beach is the famous... South Beach... we dinned at one of the restaurants along the Ocean Drive and spent the day people watching. The Port of Miami is recognized as the "Cruise Capital of the World" and "Cargo Gateway of the Americas". Miami is recognized as a global city because of its importance in finance, commerce, media, entertainment, arts and international trade. The city is home to many company headquarters, banks, and television studios. Miami also has a huge population of Cubans... (some of them were lucky enough to get out of Cuba before it feel in the hands of Fidel Castro... some fled later on using small row boats and rafts...between 1959 and 2008 at least 213,000 Cubans survived the boat trip and either entered the U.S. or were returned to Cuba. An estimated 16,000 – 20,000 probably died at sea. Once they managed to put both feet on dry land, they are allowed to stay. However in 1995, anyone picked up at sea has been returned to Cuba).
It would be interesting someday... Cuba as a cruise destination... which lies just 50 miles of the southernmost tip of Key West.

Our first visit to Miami was during our 6th wedding anniversary. We stayed at the Radisson Hotel in South Beach. T’was apparently the old hang-out of the original Rat Pack (I’m sure you’ve heard of Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra and Sammy Davies, Jr). The hotel has seen better days, i thought... it’s dated and could use a revamped (still pricey)... seems like the buildings in the neighborhood are changing and getting taller and better. I felt like we landed in New York from all of the high-rise condominiums sprouting along the beach. Hard to believe that Miami was once a farmland... although that was a century ago... Now, and has been for decades, Miami is continually attracting people from everywhere. Its gorgeous white sandy beaches, friendly people and definitely... a fun place for a vacation or a place to live all year long! Although, the people of Miami have to deal with hurricanes every year... small price to pay for living in a gorgeous place...
